Health Department Suspends Seasonal Perc Testing

LEONARDTOWN, MD (April 24, 2018) – Due to declining seasonal groundwater levels, St. Mary’s County Health Department’s Environmental Health Services division is suspending wet season perc testing.  Health department staff will conduct the last perc tests for the season on Friday, April 27.  Officials at the health department are citing declining groundwater levels as the reason, made clear by observing conditions within a network of monitoring wells in the county.

All perc test applications that were not scheduled and evaluated will be placed on hold and scheduled first when ground water levels are adequate for the next “wet season”, expected in 2019.  Applicants may also request a refund; however, they must reapply when the “wet season” returns and will lose their place in line for scheduling.

For more information, please contact Environmental Health Services at 301-475-4321.  Additional information on perc testing can be found at the St. Mary’s County Health Department website at www.smchd.org.
