LEONARDTOWN, MD (January 14, 2022) – The St. Mary’s County Health Department (SMCHD) will offer virtual Safe Food Handling classes on the following dates/times:
- January 19, 2022 (5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.)
- April 13, 2022 (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
- July 13, 2022 (5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.)
- October 19, 2022 (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
The Safe Food Handling class is designed for those preparing food at home, in restaurants, or working at special events where food is served to the public. This free introductory training covers the following topics:
- The Health Department’s role in local food safety
- Food-borne illness
- Effective cleaning methods to fight bacteria
- Preventing cross contamination
- Safe cooking practices
- How to safely store and serve food
