St. Mary’s County Health Department

LEONARDTOWN, MD (May 28, 2024) – The St. Mary’s County Health Department (SMCHD) has partnered with Maryland-based technology firm WellCheck to launch the St Mary’s County Mentoring Exchange. The digital platform provides an opportunity for parents and caregivers to explore youth mentoring programs and events in the St. Mary’s County community, and connects local youth mentoring programs with resources to support their work. Community service providers can also use the platform to refer their clients to youth development opportunities in the county.

“Positive, healthy relationships with adult mentors can change a young person’s life in an extraordinary way. Youth mentoring promotes life skills, academic success, a sense of belonging, and long-term health and wellness,” said Dr. Meena Brewster, St. Mary’s County Health Officer. “We are thankful for our partners at WellCheck who have leveraged technology to support the development and well-being of St. Mary’s County youth.”

“We believe that technology can be a powerful tool for social good, particularly when it comes to fostering the growth and development of young people. We are honored to partner with the St. Mary’s County Health Department on the St. Mary’s County Mentoring Exchange, “ said Chris Nickerson, CEO of WellCheck.  “This platform not only facilitates vital connections between mentors and mentees but also enhances the support infrastructure for youth mentoring programs throughout the county. By integrating our technology with the passionate work of mentors and educators, we are helping to shape a future where every child in St. Mary’s County has the opportunity to thrive.”
