LEONARDTOWN, MD (March 21, 2022) – The St. Mary’s County Health Department (SMCHD) is now accepting applications for the summer Student Academy in Public Health (SAPH) internship program, which will run from July 5 – August 16, 2022.
The SAPH program provides an opportunity for rising and current high school seniors to have hands-on experience in the field of public health. SAPH student interns will learn about key public health topics, shadow health department services, participate in field experiences, and help promote community health through outreach and education events.
Interested students and parents are invited to attend a virtual information session about the SAPH program on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. To attend this session, please contact the SMCHD Office of Human Resources via email to smchd.hr@maryland.gov or by phone at (301) 475-4330 to register.
“After a two-year hiatus, we are beyond excited to welcome back student interns this summer,” said Dr. Meena Brewster, St. Mary’s County Health Officer. “Our Student Academy is a wonderful way for local high schoolers to learn about the dynamic, multi-disciplinary field of public health and to contribute meaningfully to their community.”
Interested students can learn more about the program and how to apply at smchd.org/jobs. The deadline to submit application materials is Friday, April 15, 2022.
