Red Ribbon Week Campaign Unites Community to Live Drug-Free

LEONARDTOWN, MD (October 23, 2023) – This week during national Red Ribbon Week, the St. Mary’s County Health Department (SMCHD) is partnering with the St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) in providing students activities that promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

Red Ribbon Week is celebrated each year from October 23-31. The Red Ribbon Campaign, sponsored by the National Family Partnership, is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, reaching millions of young people.

This year’s theme, “Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free.”, is a reminder that people can reach their full potential by living drug-free. Communities take a visible stand for a healthier lifestyle by hosting drug prevention activities.

“We appreciate our partnership with SMCPS in spreading the message of Red Ribbon week each year to the students,” said Tammy Loewe, SMCHD Behavioral Health Division Director. “By living drug-free, our youth can become the best self they can be.”
