Maryland Children’s Health Program

Maryland Children’s Health Program (MCHP) is a health insurance program for children up to age 19 and pregnant women of any age. This program provides comprehensive health care to children and pregnant women in families with low to average incomes. The Maryland Children’s Health Program is designed to cover health care costs, and residents select a Managed Care Organization (MCO) that will provide them these benefits. Income before taxes and other deductions are counted to determine eligibility.

  • Immunizations
  • Prescription medicines
  • Transportation to medical appointments
  • Mental health services

  • For in person assistance, contact the St. Mary’s County Health Department via phone at 301-475-4330 or email to smchd.mchps@maryland.gov 

Documentation Needed to Apply

  • Photo ID
  • Proof of citizenship (birth certificate, passport, permanent resident card)
  • Social Security Number
  • Proof of income (2 biweekly pay stubs or 4 weekly pay stubs)
  • Social security income
