Youth Risk Behavior Survey Town Hall Meeting Postponed

LEONARDTOWN, MD (March 10, 2020) – The 2018 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) town hall meeting scheduled by the St. Mary’s County Health Department (SMCHD) and St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) for March 16 is being postponed until a later date. The rescheduled date will be shared with the community when it is available.

“While we are eager to share local results of the YRBS, we feel it is crucial at this time to focus our attention on planning and preparedness efforts for the novel coronavirus, COVID-19,” said Dr. Meenakshi Brewster, Health Officer for St. Mary’s County.

Community members, healthcare providers, and local business owners are encouraged to visit the SMCHD website for COVID-19 information and local updates at: www.smchd.org/coronavirus.

The YRBS is a national school-based survey conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in partnership with state and local-level education, health and governmental agencies. This survey monitors health-risk behaviors of the nation’s high school students which contribute to the leading causes of death, disability, and social issues among youth and young adults. Monitored behaviors include mental health; tobacco use; alcohol and other drug use; sexual behavior; violence; and diet, nutrition, and exercise.
